These pictures speak volumes:

The top one showing the uneasy dome resting on the pillars of Shia - Sunni detente in Iraq. And the bottom one manifesting the inevitable conflict that everyone knew would come.

(And, Zarkawi and his band of foreign insurgents have little to do with it...)

I just hope the Americans can stay out of the line of fire.... Let them have at it!

Iraq The Model thinks it is the work of foreign terrorists.......

Islam, the religion of peace. I'm sure the Arab street will be out in force over this - there must be some connection to this and the mohammed cartoons. I look for a few Jews to be hung in effigy too and no doubt some of the islamic fundamentalists will cite this as a reason for Iran to be armed with nuclear weapons - such is the mentality of the planet's latest scourge.

"Our troops are the target," Murtha told the newspaper. "We're not fighting terrorism in Iraq. We're fighting a civil war in Iraq. We've got to give them an incentive. We fought our Civil War. Let them fight their civil war."

Murtha, the senior Democrat on the House appropriations defense panel, said many Iraqis think "it's all right to kill Americans" and that most Iraqis want U.S. troops out of the country.

"There is no reason in the world we couldn't do what we're doing (in Iraq) from the periphery," Murtha said. "I've just come to the conclusion it's going to happen and it's just a matter of time."

Murtha, who voted in 2002 to give President Bush the authority to go to war, said he believes Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction, had no ties to al-Qaida and wasn't a threat to the United States.

In the meantime, George Bush is illegally claiming unheard of power Osama Bin Laden is releasing new tapes calling for our destruction and Constitutional Law Professor Blogger Ann Althouse is fiddling with American Idol Blogging while positively refusing to look into our Administration's blunders and illegal moves.

I feel oh so safe to be protected by our Constitutional Law Professor Bloggers taking up their civic duties and using their pulpits to defend the country.

Ann, do you feel safer these days than prior to 9/11? I hope so. (BTW, nice review on American Idol)

Mary: You're projecting, embarrassingly.

Well Mary, Bush's hair-brained support of UAE managing some US ports will be sending many folks over to the DNC rather quickly, myself included...

My previous comment referred to Mary's presumption that I was glad to see that dome bombed. What do you have to have in your head to come up with that sort of thing? As to the later comments, have people resorted to raving?

I read the Iraq the Model entry on it, and found it very informative. They are usually pretty accurate when it comes to this sort of thing.

I think it highly likely that it was done by people who want to plunge Iraq into sectarian war. And, thus, I disagree with Alh about the likely hood of whether or not Zarkawi was involved. This would fit in much better with his m.o. than it would almost anyone else's. After all, he is getting desperate, and he doesn't have to, and doesn't intend to stick around.

The hell with it...let's just put Saddam back in power. A return to the status quo ante should satisfy the anti-war left, and now that we're sure Saddam doesn't have WMD, the right has no reason to take him out. Win-win, mission accomplished.

Henry,

Redeployment is not retreat. Discretion is the better part of valor.

Why is it that when Vietnam Veteran, 30 year Marine and Senator Murtha calls for redeployment and repositioning that is a stock call for retreat, but when the Pentagon calls for the same thing, and the Pentagon says are presence makes matters worse, that is somehow different to you?

Frankly, Henry, You sound like a communist moral relativist pinko mush brain.

Ok, you've made your point, Mary (weak and misguided as it is). Why don't you just lay off now? You'll never be able to get out of that hole.

And quxxo, being the parasite that you are, I'm not surprised that you would use news of the terrible terrorist attack of a sacred religious shrine to peddle your tedious palaver. You continue to surpass all expectations of shamefulness.

Quxxo -- the "stock call for retreat" I'm referring to isn't Murtha's statement. It's your reposting of Murtha's statement over and over again. At least it's somewhat on-topic this time.

Google says you are talking out your ass. Read the posts, you will find that I have never posted Murtha's statement on redeployment, and only specifically referred to it once, and that was a quote of Michael Kinsley.

Henry, are you mistaken or just smearing and lying? Do you do this often? How should we take anything you say?

Begone troll!

Apology accepted, thank you, I appreciate that.

Shorter Illudium-Q36: I don't want the truth because deep down in places I don't talk about at parties, I want you on that wall, I need you on that wall. I use words like honor, code, loyalty. I use these words as a punchline to smear honorable veterans. the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them to speak of our failing commitment to those veterans. I have neither the time nor the inclination to crawl out from under the blanket of the very freedom that those Americans provide, I am busy playing my XBOX 360. I would rather you just said shut up, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.
The Truth? I can't handle the Truth! (771 references in google news today regarding Iraq civil war mosque)

Towers, Domes, precious though they may be, totemic to the culture though they are, can be rebuilt.

Was anyone hurt? That's what I want to know.

If answer yes, watch out.

Cheers,
