"But what good suggestions for McCain. He might visit a foreign country — Has he ever done that?"

Prime York snark.

Wow--Ms Stanley needs to take off the knee pads, stand up, look and listen--BO sounded remarkable unpresidential and hesitating as he tried to assert US support for Israel on the NPR clip this AM. Even the host on NPR commented on it--although I think they say "he was choosing his words carefully."

Nahhhh--the media isnt in the tank for BO--not at all. The guy has yet to face a wide open presser and has been totally stage managed through the entire process=--can't wait to see the campaign footage generated by this trip.

"When posing for an official photograph with a foreign leader, Mr. Obama often places his hand paternally on the other man’s arm, subliminally signaling that though a visitor, he is the real host of the meeting."

But IS he the real host of the meeting? I noticed in a video clip that Obama even hand-signaled to invite the Iraqi PM to sit down im the PM's own chair, in the PM's own office.

There's just something strangely wrong with Obama on this point.

So, the biggest media whore of the last 10 years is mad because no one is paying attention to him?

I think there is a word for this.

Blue, let me guess:

Bill Clinton?

What I find interesting is that how many of my less than conservative friends are in awe of BHO and how they believe he's the first candidate in years that has inspired such leadership, energy etc. What they don't seem to realize is that this supposed Democratic messiah with more campaign money than God is barely leading or is in a dead heat in the polls against a 72 year old Senator who is about as exciting as watching paint dry and can barely rouse his own party to support him.

Henry said...

I'll vote for Obama to be the official U.S. Spokesmodel. For president? No.

But the press paid attention to Bill Clinton... they didn't call him on any of his b.s., but they paid attention.

I find it funny that 9 months ago, conservatives were warning McCain about his cozy relationship with the press and that they would turn on him. McCain ignored the criticism and now has been bitten...

I liked Rush Limbaugh's suggestion to McCain that he spend this week on oil platforms in the gulf coast, showing and talking about how safe and clean they are, and about how we need many, many more of them. He'd probably need to bring his own film crew.

Blue Moon said...

Supposedly he's touring platforms in the Gulf of Mexico tomorrow.

"Prime York Snark" Yeah he's really good at that without being, at all, ugly. People who fancy themselves intelligent and witty commenters on politics could learn a lot from him.

Prime York snark

I've heard it goes great with arugula sautéed in olive oil.

Obama is like a kid playing at being President.

Let's face it, he's the black John Kerry. Any legitimate Democrat should be up 20 points on McCain yet despite the endless free positive media The Savior is in the position to be left in the dust once the Republicans turn on the engines.

I'm already bored with it. McCain is the next President.

But I am looking forward already to Hillary versus Mitt in 2012.

I agree, it is already over, Obama will win by at least 45 EVs. I will not have to stay up past 11:30 p.m. CT to know the result.

Blue,

Yea, you would like him to be there tomorrow, wouldn't you!

Blue,

"EVs" is so last election. He calls them superdelegates now.

I had to turn off the news this morning because I just couldn't stand it anymore!! Obama droning on and on and on. Uming and erring and saying absolutely nothing.

He is already assuming his 2nd term and he hasn't even been elected yet. The guy is so full of himself it's unbelievable.

What's even more unbelievable is the obviously slanted coverage by the fawning media. Obama drones on for hours and McCain is shut out of MSM coverage and given writing lessons from the NYT. Welcome to the world of Fred Thompson and the rest of the Republican candidates Mr. McCain.

When we allow a bunch of under-educated boobs and talking heads in the media to control the show, this is what we get. And we deserve it because the American public just rolls over like good little lap dogs and never questions.......is this real? Is this the truth.

I don't know, even my dog gets pissed when another dog puts his paw on her subliminally signaling that he's the alpha dog. She doesn't take it paternally at all.

The media isn't under-educated. They are giving us what we want. We want cures in a bottle, weight loss without execise, better children without discipline, lower gas prices without the law of supply and demand, religion without belief, a changed culture without working for it... and news in small bites easily digestible.

As for ego, McCain's rivals BO's -- McCain ought to come out to do his convention speech to the song "You're so vain." BO ought to come out to LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out."

McCain wanted Obama to go to Iraq. So Obama goes to Iraq and McCain complains.

WTF does he want?

Did he think the press wouldn't follow him there? Did he think they wouldn't televise him looking "presidential?" Just another glimpse into McCains strategic insight...

McCain spent a little time in Vietnam -- although it wasn't exactly a staged publicity stunt.

He's practicing for his "stroll" through the ruins of New York after the failure of his foreign policy and the inevitable attacks that will occur sometime during his next 8-10 years as President. I wonder if he'll sling his jacket over his shoulder?

NoBorg said...

Look, this sort of thing, together with the NYT editorial rejection, has a positive side. I don't know how many people bought the major media's claims of being "balanced" or "unbiased" up until now, but certainly no reasonable person can argue that position any more.

Blatant and obvious media bias is preferable to them maintaining "plausible deniability". Swing voters now understand that the press is trying very hard to direct their vote to the preferred candidate, and can factor this in to their decision.

Unknown said...

Good York. Perhaps McCain can schedule a tour of the Iraq-Pakistan border region.

Blue Moon said...

NoBorg:

But haven't the people who are attuned to media bias already decided? Do you think the average voter who does not listen to Rush, Hannity etc. has any idea that the news media is biased? I don't.

Part of the bias here is that Obama is the cool kid and McCain is old man square. It would take a "cool" conservative against a dull liberal to erase the bias -- something like Jindal vs. Dodd.

Is removing one's jacket in Amman in July really one of those things that demands a psychological explanation?

MadisonMan said...

I am still glad it's not Hillary! touring Iraq.

vbspurs said...

Is removing one's jacket in Amman in July really one of those things that demands a psychological explanation?

People need to talk, I guess.

Like the whole "bulge in the jacket" flurry of posts and articles during the 2004 Presidential debate.

Who can forget this from Slate:

Could it have been an insulin pump? Perhaps Bush was using one to treat diabetes brought on by days of heavy drinking, this letter to Salon suggests (scroll down to read the letter). Could it have been some other medical device, like a portable defibrillator that could prevent cardiac arrest? Some sites, including this one (Theory No. 2), point out that Bush has a family history of irregular heartbeats.

Or maybe the president has had a stroke, and the boxlike bulge on his back was a machine dispensing medication. In this thread on DailyKos, posters debate the merits of this far-fetched scenario. "Check Bush's mouth, where the spittle was coming out," the first post reads. "It's slightly droopy. If you go back and look at video from his earlier days, his mouth isn't drooping, that side of his face is far more animated."

Insulin pumps, drooping mouths, SPITTLE.

I'm just thankful Rethuglicans aren't targetting Obama's internal liquids.

Cheers,
Victoria

A man a plan a canal: Panama!

Let's not forget, however, that the fact that McCain was born there means that he has unique abilities and the accompanying unequalled insight to conduct foreign affairs. In fact, because he was born there, McCain personally understands the hopes, dreams and aspirations of each and every one of the 548,500,000 people living in Latin America today. War, pestilence, poverty, class distinctions and racial divisions will disappear from the earth once McCain is elected. The waters will run pure, global warming will spontaneously end, unicorns will roam the continents.... Oops, wrong candidate.

LOL!

Been away a few days, but yesterday while crossing the Mojave by SUV, we heard the end of the Limbaugh show in which he played a montage of all the "errs, ah's", etc. of a single Obama press conference in Jordan. It was 7.5 minutes or something long, and ended up running under the last commercial break and past the end of the show. I haven't heard anything so funny in years. No one does the "emperor wears no clothes" take-down quite as well as Limbaugh, and that audio was the type of thing that, in time, may be looked back at as a turning point.

If nothing else, it was hilarious. Anyone else catch that? (forgive the OT, and forgive me if this is discussed elsewhere here; like I said, just got back in the pocket after time out of town)

"Cheers,

I agree with the commentators above; I want a President that no one likes (especially the MSM); I want a President that isn't so full of himself; and the way Obama is always hemming and hawing...how unPresidential; I want a President who shoots from the hip. Let's see, a President who is unpopular, a common every-man who'd be fun to have a beer with, someone who isn't so hung up on what he's saying all the time...wow, I think we've come up with the perfect President...it's GWB!!!! Hooray! I guess I just never realized how lucky we've been the last eight years.

VVV: I heard it on the way to the airport. My kids were totally cracking up.

Today's was almost better, though. This morning I heard on Laura Ingraham a clip in which Obama introduced the guy that will be calling on the reporters during press conferences, so that Obama doesn't screw it up. He didn't want to make any of them mad at him, he explained.

This guy can't even run his own press conferences and he wants to run the country? Scary.

Spread Eagle said...

It's not over. Conventional wisdom is the salt-of-the earth folks, the great silent majority who decide presidential elections, the normal people out there, don't even wake up and start paying attention until after Labor Day. I'm thinking that the combination of an over-the-top in-the-tank fawning media and a candidate of monumental ego and self-absorption with nothing to back it up will not play well with them when they focus on it.

I have no idea what this means, but it does have a pleasing melody.

It also reminds me of my daughter's favorite song, the Police's "Da Doo doo doo...", which my wife notes she likes so much because it says "Da da" in it.

Yeah, it's a somewhat saccharine and possibly nausea-inducing observation, and lacks any Yorkian snarkiness, but this is a family blog, after all.

Yes, but that is sort of the point - if the media goes bananas enough (both legs tingling at once!) maybe it will be enough for even average voters to notice.

It's a hope at least.
