That's it? No crumbly cookie thing to go with the hot chocolate?

Meade ruining his girlish figure now that he's "gettin' the milk for free?"

Typical!

Mayans or Milkbones...the end is the same.

Jesus-Christ-those-chocolate-drink-thingies-were-$8.95-EACH, this after spending a cool "$900-something" on two trees because they reminded you of springtime. Guys, leave something for a rainy day or in case we go into a recession, it could happen.

@Richard No, you are looking at the price for a bag of chocolate to mix at home. We paid about $8 for both drinks. That was dessert after a small meal of Neapolitan pizza at Porto Alba that cost $14. So there you have it. Friday evening out for $22. It was quite lovely and romantic... and frugal.

Do they have any chocolate flavored chocolate?

I would characterize Meade's chocolate choice as manly, manly studly stuff.
While Annes is about as feminine-dainty as it gets. Crystallized violet nectar in white chocolate??

No man would be caught dead drinking Althouse's concoction, while some real men would hesitate daring Meade's Manyan..

Ewww, noice.

Maui sourdough bread for a party tonight, to which I must now hasten.

True story. * points * I went walking around the neighborhood with the camera and lenses in a backpack. I was going directly to Molly Brown's house, but chatting it up with the people along the way asking them if they knew where it was even though I already knew. Nobody, and I mean nobody knew where it is even though we were only a block away, and even though it sticks out like a sore thumb. The next day I got a call from a friend I haven't heard from in two years inviting me to a dinner. He gave his new address. I go, "I was in your neighborhood yesterday walking around." He goes, "Yeah? Why?" I told him about photographing the deplorably decorated Molly Brown house. He goes, "I bought the house next door." So that's where I'm going.

Today, I renewed my gym membership. Do you realise how much such a thing costs, when you pay in cash? I almost gasped, since one year ago, it was $200 less.

But hey, they got new ellipticals by Precor and added like a dozen more Zumba classes.

So pass those Milkbones baby! I'll work it off my thighs tomozzz.

Cheers,
Victoria

Love that hot chocolat treat. Did you eat the marshmallows first?

You should have gotten something gooey and sweet to go with the cocoa.

Even though you now have someone to cuddle with, a little extra flesh never hurts on those sub-zero nights.

The milk is what's doing it ;)

Enjoy the little suppers out, guys. That's a big part of what makes being with someone so nice.

Isn't that the theory behind copyrights for books and videos?

Ann, I just noticed the "Althouse, you magnificent bastard!" quote.

While I would never refer to a lady in such a manner, I appreciate the noble sentiment behind it.

Moreover, you are the only one I know of to receive that plaudit besides Karl Rove.

You are a colossus, Madame.

Edutcher...The magnificent bastard was Patton's reaction to Field Marshall Erwin Rommel's strategy, to whom the professor must be related some generations back.

Now that I think about it, the full video better resembles these "little fish" getting in the ring with Althouse.

And why we say...

"You beautiful bastard! ...I'll get you another one."

Yeay! I finally got my Camtasia Studio and Snagit software! Wheee!

Supercheap deal, $100 for both.

Now if I only had some time to play with it....

Unknown said...

tg, are you saying our Ann is related to the Desert Fox?

PS Not being as big a fan of Blood And Guts as you, my perspective on the phrase is only that of the Internet.

I know Snagit, but what's Camtasia Studio?

Beth said...

kentuckyliz,

Am I right in thinking you're in higher ed? Are you using Camtasia for teaching purposes? I'm starting to play with it, but like you I haven't had much time.

ed: Camtasia creates an A/V recording of what goes on on your computer screen; say you're a math teacher and you are teaching a section online. You can work through problems and then have a nice little video for your class. Or you can record an online video conference. I want to record one of my class meetings in Second Life, for my retention/promotion review next year so I'm going to see how well it will work for that. I think it would be good for creating some grammar exercises for freshman comp, as well.

Mayan chocolate - just pepper or pepper with cinnamon?

We like to add a little cayenne to our hot chocolate (we, being us here in our house.)

reader_iam said...

Are not things look[ed] at also consumed?

Well, yes and no.

(Of course, you already knew/know that.)

Ann Althouse said...

@Beth If you go to the link, you'll see there are 3 kinds of chilis and cinnamon, sugar, and corn meal, as well as chocolate.

Beth said...

Corn meal? Now I must learn more.

I'm dissatisfied with "you can make up your own mind." Sorry.

I've used chipotle in hot chocolate as well as cayenne, so I have a good sense for that, but was it tasty? What did corn meal do to the texture of the drink?

Meade said...

Elizabeth, I thought the Mayan hot cocoa was good but too sweet.

Loved the flavors of the chilies with cinnamon.

The cornmeal sinks to the bottom and provides a chewy two or three final mouthfuls of chocolate-y corn grit goodness.

Beth said...

Thanks, Meade. I can almost taste that - but I think I'll pass on the corn, though I can see the whole maize-Mayan theme they're going for.

I'll just stick to having my grits in a bowl, with butter, salt and pepper for now.

I've only used it briefly so far, but I've been favorably impressed with Camtasia. Gonna put some vids together soon.
