"I know what you're doing! You want to buy right-wing lettuce seed!"

Just something I said, seconds ago.

Hmm. Conservative by source or species?

Yeah, well, so Ace IS the place of the helpful right-wing hardware folks.

Deal with it.

None of that lefty arugala in this household, missy.

It's iceberg or the highberg.

You mean like they'll sprout full of hope and promise in the Spring, only to be cut down by the Democrats and wilting to nothingness in the Fall?

Is it a Caesar salad we'll be eating next year?

Meade -- that ad shows how ACE empowers women -- no husband and/or father is evidently necessary for yardwork. Clearly a left-wing message.

By the grace of God, sir!

I'm worried that equipment is going to tumble out if the ride is at all bumpy.

I see that sort of thing all the time. I think it's people's way of saying "Lookee, everyone, I'm actually using my pickup to haul something!"

I should add, in partial defense of pickup owners, that when I lived in Louisiana they'd usually put the tailgate up when they had their kids riding in back.

I saw 3 strong fellows load up that equipment. Wondering how Mom and Tot are going to unload it. And then reload for the trip back. Or even Mom, Dad, and Tot.

OMG! Is shopping at Ace the equivalent to shopping at Walmart? Someone tell me quick before I ruin my reputation!

There are about five jokes I could make so just consider them made.

Althouse -- My first thought also.

I've been seen driving a pickup truck from time to time.

No way I would have driven off with the tailgate down, or without strapping the equipment in.

And I'm a girl.

Watch out! OHSA's on the way!!

Whoa - you are buying lettuce seed NOW? And I thought I had a short growing season in south Puget Sound! My starts are already out, albeit under reemay.

Ok, I won't make any jokes, just point you to an old gag about a tight fit!

Well, isn't it much more fun to cut off that left wing lettice head?

OTOH, then you have to munch on it.
... um, decissions, decissions

vw: rercalyc, what you get when you eat PC lettice

Paul - growing up in Newfoundland, riding in the back was common. I'd often squat rather than set, seeing how high I could keep my center of gravity without stumbling on the turns. I don't recall tailgates ever being open, unless something like a load of lumber was being hauled.

(I doubt that the tail being down would make any difference in an accident. Not many collisions would send you backwards. In any case, driving with the tail needlessly down is being an ass, since it can lead to accidents.

So everyone, if you have a long load to haul, do remember to attach a brightly visible cloth at the back.)

Mighty mustard trees grow from tiny mustard seeds.

Good choice. Left-wing lettuce elicits a gag reflex.

Knock knock. Who's there? Lettuce. Lettuce who. Lettuce alone, we're eating!

Seeds to table is to long a wait. You can buy lettuce at Whole Foods and have a summer salad tonight.

Peter Hoh said...

Inquiring minds want to know: what are the Right kind of lettuce seeds?

WV: commi

I kid you not.

Ann Althouse said...

Hey, you left out the pizza.

Meade said...

oh yeah. The pizza ruled!

Peter Hoh said...

Thanks for clearing up the mystery.

The lazy ass gardener at this house managed to buy some non-fancy beets, peas, and spinach, but hasn't actually got them in the ground.

Maybe tomorrow.

btw, my favorite seeds seem to fly down even-wingedly from Minnesota.

The only times I've ever ridden in the back of a truck have been in Delaware and Maryland at the beach. And me, an Arkansan!
