Who is going to shine a light on this problem? Will no one drive the message home? This is a slippery slope. Meade and Althouse aren't the only ones skating on thin ice.

Similes rule. Metaphors drool.

And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air gave proof through the night that our metaphor was still there.

@Peter_Hoh

Similies are next to go. Just wait.

These are not the metaphors you are looking for.

I for one look forward to the sun setting on our long national nightmare of metaphorical speech. Literalism will free us from the bonds of relating thoughts to experiences.

Metaphor drives its point home on a two-way street.

(Probably from Richard Harvey Brown _A Poetic for Sociology_ but maybe from Goffman somewhere)

Simile and the world similes with you.

Metaphor and you metaphor alone.

In any case, the page ain't there.

I would gladly give up similes if the word "like" could be eliminated for all purposes. Like, now.

Similes are mindless teenagers who say "like" all the time.

R.L. Hunter said...

All the world's a simile,
And all the men and women merely metaphors.

SiMiLE was the name of another unreleased Beach Boys album in the 1960s. Brian Wilson said in interview at the time that it was like, a teenage symphony to God.

I've not been in therapy. What does that mean?

A Dem. Rep. is now trying to get the term "job killing" removed from the ObamaCare repeal bill.

Apparently it is too violent.

If metaphors are outlawed, only outlaws will have metaphors.

Interviewer: Why didn't you call the police?

Vercotti: Well, I was terrified. Everyone was terrified of Doug. ...

Interviewer: What did he do?

Vercotti: He used... sarcasm. He knew all the tricks, dramatic irony, metaphor, bathos, puns, parody, litotes and... satire. He was vicious.
