"They called me an unbeliever for defending democracy, which the Islamic State says is against the Koran."

Said Mohamed Taha Sabri, who is losing support at the House of Peace mosque in Berlin.
“The Islamic State. It is like an invisible arm, coming to poison the wells where our children drink,” Sabri said. “We are losing something precious. We are losing our young people.”...

[T]he Tunisian-born Sabri, who was imprisoned and tortured in the 1980s as a student protester before moving to Germany, called a series of youth meetings. He prominently displayed the flags of Germany and the European Union. His point: Muslims should be proud to live in a thriving Western democracy.

Sabri called the gatherings five days in a row, stringing up new flags each day. But every morning, he said, he arrived to find that some of the youths had taken down both flags before violently shredding them with pocket knives.

The Islam of Dubai stands as such an utter contrast to that of Europe. Perhaps Angie Merkel should consult Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Islamic State vs. The Jewish State was bad enough for 70 years. Now ISIL wants to take over western Europe. The Iranian nukes soon to be followed by the Saudi nukes will mean there needs to be German nukes. Doesn't sound like a religion that wants peace until eveyone else on earth are dead or enslaved. No wonder Obama is so impressed by them.

Reading that it sounds as if ISIS has simply adopted the tactics of the western left.

@ Oso Negro

Is it the Islam of Dubai or the state security apparatus of Dubai that account for the contrast?

Why don't we see more of this here and everywhere as an anti-dote to the extremists.

It is a fight that is sowing fresh divisions, and one the moderates do not always win.

Wow, what an understatement...

Good question. I wish we did. Maybe because not many people are as courageous as this guy.
I mean would you be surprised to read in the news one of these days that he had been murdered?

@Bob - The Islam of Dubai, Bob. A tolerant Islam, by the standards of the religion, supported by a enlightened monarch. And I'm no monarchist. Just an observer.

@Bob Boyd

Agree that he is one courageous guy but there is safety in numbers if a lot of them start doing that everywhere. And, it has to come from within, from Muslim communities, their good Imams and Mosques. But it is difficult and it is a vicious cycle, especially when politics and money (think Saudi, Qatari) are fueling discord for nefarious purposes, and the discord helps the extremists but the state entities don't want to do much because it will rob them of their own power. Anyway, in their view who are getting killed are the peasants and not much value put on them even when the extremists kill their own. All the world over, the good people should go after state entities, (Saudis, Turks, Yemenis, Qataris..). Imagine what would happen if Saudis started pouring money into this courageous Imam's mosque and others like it, and started the dialog towards democracies and modern ideas. Or, imagine if the Saudis just stopped funding all the bad guys.

Because it isn't perceived by the news media as newsworthy. They mistakenly - and maybe purposely - view it as Man Bites Dog.

I, for one, will welcome our new Islamic overlords.

Kind of like how the media here ignores Ben Carsons of the world all the time elevating the Al Sharptons, ;)

I have been to Dubai and its a great place to visit. Very modern and it's very easy to be there compared to some other places in the region. The government has set out very deliberately to make that happen and it has paid off.
After the US overthrew Saddam, many Iraqis looked to Dubai as the model for what they would like to see Iraq become. It all seemed so possible there for a bright shining moment. The dream slipped through their fingers. Very sad to see what has become of Iraq instead.

The tactics and goals of the left and islamists are one and the same, the world over: totalitarianism.

.."The one thing that absolutely could not be tolerated was true freedom, the liberty of the individual. For Jean-Jacques Rousseau, the “social compact” would otherwise be “an empty formula.” The irreducible core of the utopia he envisioned, the “undertaking which alone can give force to the rest,” was quite simply this: “Whoever refuses to obey the general will shall be compelled to do so by the whole body.”

Ah, yes, the “general will.” For this, every modern totalitarian movement is indebted to the 18th-century Genevan philosopher who claimed, in The Social Contract, that a man’s compulsory servitude to the state — the embodiment of this general will — “means nothing less than that he will be forced to be free.” Rousseau was what we today call “Orwellian” long before there was an Orwell. “Freedom” was nothing more than submission.

That is why Rousseau so admired Islam.

The history of Islam and the modern Left is one of cooperation when there is some obstacle to their divergent concepts of “social justice” and the perfect society. These are always marriages of convenience, enduring no longer than the enemy that drives them into each other’s arms. But, reliably, it is they — the Islamists and the leftists — who come together when there is a third party in the mix. Rarely will one collude with a common enemy against the other. Today, the common enemy of Islamists and leftists is individual liberty, especially the social, economic, and political freedom guaranteed by the American Constitution, as conceived by the Framers. Conceived, that is, by men who saw government as a necessary evil to be rigorously limited lest it devour true freedom — not as an essential good to be empowered for the very purpose of enforcing servitude.

Collaborations between Islamists and leftists — past examples and those happening right before our eyes — are numerous, so much so that I admit to being dumbfounded by the frequency of the question of whether they really happen. That there is collusion is undeniable."

Quick, there must be some Christian somewhere who has said something about the US being a Christian nation, even though that's as far as any Christian will go with it.

For Pete's sake, we must forever and ever deny that more and more adherents of Islam are actively seeking the Caliphate and all the nastiness that would bring.

Europe is slowly islamisizing. Their politicians, many of the left, bow and scrape to their unassimilating muslim immigrants. Some say out of fear but it's pretty clear it is something else. When the people want the immigration checked because of the crime, the unassimilation, and the bending to those immigrants demands over one's own culture, that has come with it, they are called racist and xenophobic.

They attack religion - specifically Judaism and Christianity, but never islam. They attack Israel and accuse her of atrocities, but are silent to the atrocities in the rest of the middle east.

And you look at our own politicians. When a jihadi shoots up Fort Hood, we're told to not jump to conclusions - it's workplace violence. <- One example of many. Supports terrorist Muslim Brotherhood - talks of imposing sanctions on Israel. We have democrats saying there is nothing wrong with sharia law, who also has a champion in Kagan.
When Benghazi went up in flames, Hillary, who denied requests for its standard security, said it was the fault of a video. And now she is out there saying we must empathize and try to understand our enemies. (Not to mention her husband ignoring the terror attacks throughout his term, and building the wall between intelligence agencies, which led up to 9/11.)

Hillary, whose family foundation is taking in millions from terror sponsoring, misogynist, regimes....whose close assistant, Huma's family belongs to the muslim brotherhood. And yet there are die-hard Hillary lovers on this blog. Smh.

Clinton created an Islamic state in Europe at the expense of native Christians. It was the first militant takeover of a European enclave since the brutal deposition of native people in South Africa. It's telling that they have shifted strategies from staging violent coups to democratic corruption in the rest of Europe (and America). Ukraine may be an outlier, or perhaps a warning.

Islam has been attempting to conquer Europe for over a thousand years.

They're coming closer now than ever before.

Because it would be about as effective here as it was for him. Islam does not allow reform, and explicitly mandates forceable conversion, as any honest Muslim will tell you. Of course, the Koran explicitly tells Muslims to lie to unbelievers.
