Did Madonna sexually assault Drake?

"Madonna pulled the singer back to plant a kiss on his lips, making out with him for at least three seconds.... when she was finished, the musician looked horrified, even wiping his mouth."
Later, sources were quick to tell TMZ that Drake liked the kiss, but that it was merely her lipstick that turned him off, therefore the foul look on his face. It was added by insiders that the smack on the mouth was not planned, but rather a last-minute decision by Madge.
If it was not planned, then she did not have his consent, and it was a sexual assault. It's an easy question.

BUT: I tend to think that it was planned... planned in a way that still made it possible to say that Madonna made "a last-minute decision" to do the kiss exactly the way she chose and to provoke whatever reaction Drake came up with on the spur of the moment. The 2 were performing together, and I'm guessing that he knew there was a range of spontaneous-looking things she might do to him and that he chose to do a few spontaneous things himself — grabbing her as if he likes it, then wiping his face as if he doesn't. The song was "Human Nature," and presumably they were enacting the lyrics, which include things like "You held me down and tried to make me break/Express yourself, don't repress yourself...."

By the way, "Human Nature" is a great song and my personal favorite Madonna video.

She has gone from sex symbol to the Auntie that no one invites to dinner.

This may have also been the Madonna equivalent of the old opera trick of when the primo oumo doesn't care much for the prima donna (or vice versa), s/he eats an onion right before they sing the love duet together.

Yeah.....Madonna.....

I don't think they make a condom thick enough for me to even consider it.

And swapping spit with her?

Ah.

No.

I believe it was Madonna who said that it would benefit every man to know what it's like to have another man's tongue in his mouth so this Drake guy might now be able to shed some light on that claim.

Now I am imagining a campaign ad: Hillary kisses average Americans this way and they look horrified.

""Human Nature" is a great song"

One of the more puzzling claims made on this blog.

Maybe I'm missing the postmodern tongue-in-cheek dissing, but to be "great," wouldn't a "song" have to include actual, you know, singing?

Regardless of acting or not by the standards of today's consent requirements (see the training the marines are receiving en masse right now), Madonna assaulted Drake.

Considering this is performance art, it sounds to me like promoting that a powerful woman can assault men with impunity.

The fetish of course is that Madonna used an overwhelming "eat you up" male conquest kiss and not a female's romantic kiss.

Nobody normal wants to be swallowed up.

I recall the salacious fan dancer Sally Rand and the hilarious actress Mae West using their sexuality in performance art well into their 50s, 60s, and older. They did it well. Even Susan Sarandon maintained her delightfully naughty screen presence for decades past most female actresses.

Madonna? Not as well.

Madonna is as good at old-lady sex as Hillary! is at old-lady campaigning.

I think there should be a music union rule against prostitutes becoming members.

Guys can manage okay without the men=women law.

Me too.

I remember watching Madonna being interviewed by Oprah when the Bulls made their big Championship runs. They were talking about Dennis Rodman and how troubled he was, weird, out of line, etc...

And then Oprah got around to the elephant basically asking, "well we know all that...but...um...why did you sleep with him?"

I'm pretty sure this would qualify as rape according to the study that says 1/5 of all women are raped on US campuses.

Also, Joe Biden would be considered a sexual offender as well according to the same study.

No kidding.

This ranks right up there with the SNL haw haw about rapey female teachers.

The writhing around is very strange when the video is muted.

And not muted too, but more so when muted.

Easy question?!

You've got two big problems. One, how do you prove non-consent? You're wrong when you suggest a kiss has to be planned in advance. People can kiss in spontaneous fashion. You can surprise people with a kiss.

Assume he was surprised with the kiss. (I think he was!) Where's the rejection? Where's the no? You think you can prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that he objects to the kiss? When your "victim" is saying he didn't object?

And the second problem. Is a kiss sexual assault? Imagine aunts or grandmothers kissing small children. Is that sexual assault? You going to prosecute them too?

Here's a little description of California's sexual assault law. Are other people getting prosecuted for kissing under this statute? I doubt it.

The problem is that today's consent rules are pretty much one sided. Men have to ask for consent, women can do what they want, because they're oppressed.

So no, Madonna doesn't need consent.

Of course, I believe it was as planned as Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" at the Superbowl years ago.

Hypothetical:
Everything happens as described. But this time reverse the roles: Drake kisses Madonna without warning, she acts surprised and wipes her mouth in revulsion.

Is there any doubt that it would be considered assault?

Whenever a singer dies at the peak of their career, and people wonder what great things we missed out on due to their untimely passing, I think about cases like Madonna and wonder if their fate of steady decline is worse than to have died in their prime.

When you're a straight celebrity and your fan base is overwhelmingly homosexual men, it's generally a sign you've crossed into total camp.

They are playing out a sexual violence scene on stage. Whether it was a real assault or not is unknown. But what is known is that we are expected to see the scene and enjoy it, and the enjoyment is supposedly because the woman ravishes the man, a switch from the traditional scenario.

You obviously don't hang out with the women Laslo hangs out with.

This silly madonna sex act is eating into Hildabeast's 24/7 CNN coverage.

The only thing that will be allowed to trump Hildabeast's Coronation Story would be another Airliner Missing Story...and it had better be a big plane.

Her new album is #1 and she is still one of the few artists who filled giant stadiums all over the world. Her music is still played in all the big clubs in international cities-even her knew stuff.

Yes, she is older, but she still has an impact.

Also, the new album is her best since Ray of Light. I was sick of her for years but the new album has sold really well and is receiving rave reviews. It is also really good-Ghostown and Body Shop are fab!

Ageist people/war on older women!

They are? Weird. I watched that clip, she's singing a song, she kisses him, and the audience cheers.

JoyD said...

I clicked on your clip, idly, and then was transfixed...not in such a good way...

John Cougar, as he was then known, was doing a lame sophomoric version of this in the 80's, lots of leather and bondage, and I noticed my 3-year-old gaping in front of it, and no I hadn't been paying attention for five minutes, my fault. We cancelled cable that day and have never, never missed it in our healthy normal intelligent adult lives. Please don't anyone take personal offense at my use of the word "normal". I'm talking about "my" normal. Our three kids (now men, fathers, doctors, musicians) survived MTV although one of them once got caught trying to shoplift a Madonna DVD. I won't say which one..

Saint Croix said...

According to this, Drake asks the crowd after the kiss, "What the fuck just happened?"

Then Drake tweets, "Don't misinterpret my shock!! I got to make out with the queen Madonna and I feel 100 about that forever. Thank you Madonna."

A few thoughts...

1) Madonna has used sexuality a lot in her art. But she's never done any art where a man is revolted at the idea of sex with her. This is kinda like Jenny McCarthy mounting Justin Bieber. She thinks she's more sexually attractive than she is, and the man is repulsed/freaked out.

2) Madonna has worked plenty of violent themes into her art, so it's entirely possible she has some sort of rape motif going on. It's possible that she was motivated by the Shia LaBeouf art show. And so she does a kissing assault to stir up similar controversy.

3) Both #1 and #2 suggest that Drake had no idea what she was going to do. Was she trying to stir up controversy? Of course. How controversial is a kiss? Not controversial at all. But how controversial is a kiss of a much younger man, a black man, who has no idea that he's going to be kissed? Much more controversial, particularly the last bit. Madonna has already kissed Britney and young men and black men. Nobody cares! So she has to do something new and provocative, so now she's veering into a kissing assault on an unsuspecting victim.

4) Why is Drake apologizing for his revulsion? Maybe he's just a polite guy. Maybe he's honest and her lipstick freaked him out. Maybe he doesn't like white girls kissing him, and he's chagrined at his racism. Maybe he doesn't like old women kissing him, and he's chagrined at his ageism. Maybe he needs Madonna for X, Y or Z, and so he's apologizing in suck up fashion.

jr565 said...

Well, did Madonna ask Drake if he wanted a kiss before plopping one on him? then she sexually harassed him.

Bob said...

It wasn't a kiss, she was implanting an alien embryo. It'll burst out of his chest sometime in the next day or so.

rhhardin said...

Lipstick is always annoying.

It's not up there with assault though.

So Scarlett Johnnason was sucking my cock when she nibbled a bit hard with her spectacular front teeth.

I flinched a little and she pulled back and danced naked around the room with he rhands dancing in her armpits exclaiming :"I'm Monkey Madonna! I'm Monkey Madonna! I'm Monkey Madonna!"

Cutest thing ever.

Last time I tried that kiss them quick move, the lady said, " Don't I get a say in this?"

So I backed off until she had a say in it. But it broke the ice.

Madonna - Ewwww!

The guy looked like he was going in for root canal and just wanted to get it over. He sat down, closed his eyes and threw his head back; that "kiss" was about as spontaneous as Hillary2016's decision to drive a van through the heartland. There are lots of older attractive women who have a sexy way about themselves, but Madonna is not one of them. Her retro-skank fashion and teenage mannerisms make her look like some deluded Mom having a second adolescence. She reminds me of Bette Davis in "Whatever happened to Baby Jane?".

Just think about all the 'things' that mouth has been on.

Do they make prophylactic lips?

No comments on her, twice, making sure he did not grasp her by the neck or head? Struck me as either:
1) Don't block my camera shot, amateur!
or 2) No! I'm in control of this, both intensity and duration.

One ego driven, one control/assault (and ego driven).
