"President Barack Obama's top adviser, Valerie Jarrett, went around the table and kissed reporters before an interview this morning on MNSBC's Morning Joe."

"The moment was briefly captured on live television before the network cut away to a commercial break."

The middle east Kiss of peace. It was a favorite ritual of Judas Iscariot.

Probably called them "sweetie" too.

It's because they are political BFFs.

But, Fox News isn't "real news", right?

They all have to kiss her signet too.

Think that's bad? You should see what they do when the camera's are off!

I don't understand how she remains a relatively mysterious figure while Karl Rove was the most evil political Rasputin ever.

Are you sure they weren't kissing her ring?

JAORE said...

Did she get explicit permission?

RAPE!

Ah, a kiss from a Chicago slumlord.

I think it's funny that there aren't enough fans of the network here to notice the misspelling.

The part where they kiss her ass is done off camera.

And on. (Metaphorically).

Predictable comments, me included. Anyone got something more original? I didn't.

VJ joins the set....

Is that her next post-presidential advisor gig?

Not surprised, as Mika gets texts from her, whenever they veer off the talking points....

Is it just me or has American culture become a lot more touchy in the past 20 years? I feel like when I was a child, respectable American adults didn't touch each other this way, hugging, or doing those gangster cheek kiss greetings. Yes, and people calling complete strangers "honey" and "sweetie" -- I find it off-putting when other people do it around me, and flatly offensive when people do it to me. It is climbing on the list of things that rub me wrong when I return to the US from East Asia.

Balfegor,

In the last 20 years...yes. But the late 80s and 90s where unusual in the lack of touching and familiarity of speech. I think we're returning to the norm.

Now imagine this was Joe Biden and all the reporters were female.

Anonymous said...

No, wait.

I take that back.

Imagine it was Karl Rove and the reporters are all young, pretty, females.

My guess is that East Asia has a great many fewer show business phonies.

I wonder if Jarrett brought up the pay disparity among the hosts.

Really, no one else is irked by "MNSBC"?

Why shouldn't Valerie show affection to her teammates?

XMAS: It is a direct copy/paste from the original article at the Weekly Standard.

Well, given that the reporters have been wearing knee pads for 6 years for her boss...

I don't understand how she remains a relatively mysterious figure while Karl Rove was the most evil political Rasputin ever.

With Lee Atwater before him being even MORE evil...

Foreplay. The act is consummated during the interview.

Rove mopped the floor with liberal politicians. Jarret has done nothing that we can discern beyond flapping the afore mentioned lips.

I don't remember which time it was, I have lived in Asia twice, once in the 70s and once in the 80s, but one time, when I went over, no one said bye-bye on the phone unless they were speaking to a child. Two years later, when I came back, almost everyone was saying it to everyone else, even on business calls.

that's how you do it, Madonna! take notes, bitch.

Saint Croix said...

If Glenn Beck tried that on the View, that would have been a thing.

She took a third rate college lecturer and community activist from nowhere to President of the United States. And she did it while the empty suit accomplished nothing along the way except get credit for others people's work.

Give the devil her due.......

Oh my Gawd. How can such friendly informality be tolerated by such uptight WASPs. It's political-social sacrilege, threatening to disrupt the delicate balance of uptightness and aggression that fuels our best political moments. And entirely imported from our imperial/monarchical mother country.

Lol. Now there are some cultures with long-standing freedom-loving traditions.
