"The View from Trump Tower."

A nice cartoon riff on the famous Steinberg New Yorker cover — by Tom the Dancing Bug.

I am a great admirer of Saul Steinberg and it pains me to think that the day rapidly approaches when someone will ape that cartoon divided into "us" and "them" and people will call it a clever homage.

alot artistic projection going on here

Projection is absolutely a real thing, and it would serve the reader well to keep it close to mind any time Democrats are talking about Republicans.

@Eric

I don't think it's an homage to Steinberg. It's a use of the Steinberg template to make a cartoon with a different purpose, making fun of Trump.

I'd say that's a game changer of a cartoon. If those rubes in the hinterlands only knew what Trump really thought of them, why they would vote for Hillary in a heartbeat. /sarc

The cartoon is better titled "The View From The New Yorker."

So how do you do that cartoon, and fail to include terrorists celebrating on a rooftop in New Jersey? You know, the one thing Trump actually claimed to see?

Fail.

A bit of editing and it could change to the "View From the Clinton Foundation" and the depiction would span the globe, littered with a different set dupes, suckers, and patsies.

Of course, a few grave markers would have to be added. Along with subpoenas fluttering in the breeze. Maybe add some 55 gallon drums of Bleach Bit in the upper right corner.

I had a low bar of expectation set before clicking, and sadly it was exactly what I thought it would be.

Standing on the shoulders of giants.

Look that one up.

I am Laslo.

There's no golf courses- Doral. Turnberry. The associated helipads therein.

This doosh knows nothing of Trump.

As a result, I haven't changed my vote...

also why are hillary rallies so sparely attended these days?

Those liberal New Yorkers just seem to have imbibed "How to Win Friends & Influence People" right from their mother's milk, haven't they?

I'm sure hundred of thousands of Trump supporters in the heartland will look at that and say to themselves "I am! I am a rube & a mark! How could I have been so blind? I'm voting for Hillary now!".

Why, Hillary owes Tom the Squashed Bug a slot in her administration.

What's a notch below derivative? Ah, yes: Utterly predictable and lazy.

That one is hilarious. It is a true NYC point of view. But pinning it on the commoner Donald is a smooth trick.

What, no Trump jet landing at Teeterboro?

Clever enough I suppose, but I'm not clear on whose POV this is supposed to be. The Steinberg cartoon had a very clear POV.

I don't wonder. I'm beyond worry. No point in either wondering or worrying. I'm into pure disgust. There's some peace to be found having to do with all of that. One or another of the candidates will be the next POTUS. That's it, that's all, so it goes, and onward ho. So it ever has been. By Election Day, I am 100% certain that I will have moved from disgust to numb.

rcommal said...

I want to say this:

"Better than nothing," while a good standard, is a lower standard then the likes of "numb."

That is actually an excellent illustration of the progressive fantasy Trump mind, based of course on nothing but the projection of their own deep-seeded biases and bigotry.

Michael Fitzgerald:

What a load of shit that you've just shoveled.

rcommal said...

I will say this, though: SO noting the recent Internet meme of stealth-exchanging out the notion of "deep-seated" in favor of "deep-seeded."

Michael Fitzgerald:

What you just wrote, in your comment, perfectly illustrates how ignorant you are in terms of what you seem to think is absolutely true.

Gosh, at a glance I thought it was the view from Chappaqua.

The labels used by the artist are deplorable.

Yawn. Pretty boring.

Just a typical liberal shot. Reminds one of a lame liberal comedian who throws out a gratuitous slam on conservatives, Christians, etc. during a floundering set in order to elicit the Pavlovian applause from the crowd.

Sure, pal. Let me clue you in- It isn't republicans that are famous for trashing middle Americans. Donald Trump didn't proudly declare that members of the opposition political party, fellow Americans, were his enemy. And it isn't Donald Trump saying that millions of Americans are deplorable. All this vile bile attributed to Trump is pouring forth from the cesspool of progressive minds. In case you missed the call to arms, august progressive democrat party newspaper The Washington Post declared that the rules of journalistic ethics no longer applied, so that American journalists may openly advocate against and actively attack the republican candidate for the presidency. Kind of the journalistic nuclear option, employed by the very hypocrites and liars who have been assailing FOX NEWS for years because of their supposed lack of integrity. But it's nothing new, it's just that the Journolisters have come out the chat rooms into the open. This rubbish about the racism/sexism/homophobism/xenophobism of republican voters has been the standard leftist line of attack for generations. Gee, it's not like we didn't hear for 8 years how any opposition to the sneaky rat in the White House was RACIST! It's not like a grassroots gathering of citizens lobbying their government for sound fiscal practices was tarred with same tired lies about their hatred for anyone not like them- Which, come to think of it, describes democrat party members exactly. By their actions you shall know them.

Well, now: ^ That there statement of yours is quite similar to a statement I have made for many years...um, by now. I wish you good luck on that one. Hope it works for you. Times change, though. Godspeed.

rcommal said...

Sure, pal.

I'm not your pal, and nor are you mine.

Let me clue you in--

No, I won't let you clue me in, because I don't you so do to. I've been clued in plenty, for a very long time now, in terms of all of the points that you ticked off, not to mention so many more, including many far more important (and therefore we acted in terms of them). I don't need you to "clue me in" to any sort of knowledge or information at all.

rcommal said...

If you gave even a shit, much less two damns, Michael Fitzgerald, about the sorts of folks who've gone out on their own, who actually bothered to do the sorts of stuff you advocate, you wouldn't be so quick to spray that sort of shit talking points all over them.

---

Wait--well, actually, you might be that quick so to do.
