R is back.

My ex-husband Richard Lawrence Cohen has returned to blogging. He's shortened his name to RLC and lengthened his profile. Let's check out the movies:
Seven Samurai, Throne of Blood, Maborosi, Vertical Ray of the Sun, The Terminator, Terminator 2, Alien, Alien 2, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (70s remake), Body Snatchers, The Fly (70s remake),The Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, Divorce Italian Style, The 400 Blows, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, My Dinner with Andre, The Searchers, My Darling Clementine, Unforgiven, Once Upon a Time in America, It's a Gift, Horse Feathers, Duck Soup
Only two matches with the favorites in my profile. But with all that Japanese animation, where is "Grave of the Fireflies"?

For some annoying reason, he's excised his Site Meter. Well, that's no fun. Don't you know this is a game? I like to know the score!

Anyway, welcome back.

I get the impression from his blog that he is flaky, unfocused, and superficial. Why did you marry him?

Ann, thanks for the link. I forgot to include "Bringing Up Baby" and "His Girl Friday," but so did you. I'm planning to rent "Sansho the Bailiff" to remind myself of it, so maybe that will be a third match.

The movie is called Aliens, not Alien 2.

Grave of the Fireflies

One of the best "movies" of the latter Twentieth Century. It is quite simply, beautiful.

Richard and I have The 400 Blows in common, that's it.

Even though he likes screwball comedies as I do (check my Thin Man citation on my profile), I don't think our relationship is going to work.

Cheers,
Victoria

Whoa!

I just checked my View Profile, and later, Ann's, for the movies.

I had recently been told via email what my Profile Views total was, so I knew what to expect, but if I thought that was a too creepy/flattering number, it's NOTHING in comparison to Ann's total.

Dayyyum girl.

Cheers,
Victoria

Your ex-husband has excellent taste in movies.

There was no '70s remake of The Fly.

If memory serves, David Cronenberg's excellent "reimagining" (as we'd call it today) was 1986.

A good list, I think, though I look askance at that '70s remake of Invasion of the Body Snatcher. It's not as bad as its reception at the time would have one believe, but it still doesn't measure up to the original. (But it's head and shoulders above the '90s remake.)

(Hmmm. Never been able to post before. And even now Google seems to find me suspicious. Huh.)

Maborosi is an interesting choice. It is also a Japanese film, a conteporary drama which investigates the complexities of marriage, divorce, death, and child-rearing. The word means 'vision' or 'fantasy' in Japnaese.

Perhaps a more recent one?

'mirage' might be a better description of the sense of the word though, especially in relation to the content of the film.

You are very competitive towards him. Do you like his novels? Are you in any of them as the basis of a character?

Capricorns like a challenge. They love games and competition.

People with the name 'Richard' all seem to have similar personality traits, I've noticed.

The Karate Kid (1984)--with Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita, would be a good film.

...when dealing with this type of situation.

Grave of the Fireflies? Hell - where's Lupin Sanse?!

All that Miyazaki, and no Lupin? That's criminal.

...introducing the 'Marriage Meter'. Couples are required to show at least 5% of total hits per month or must separate.

I don't see the point of Site Meter unless you're aiming for blog celebrity. I only put one on my blog when people started leaving comments so I could make sure I could reciprocate blogrolling. I end up having a hard time remembering to check it. But mainly I just want to say Alien is a great movie! The Althouse retinue, past and present, have solid taste in movies all around. Although I really enjoyed Pieces of April which was derided as being very sentimental. It's a genre piece.

Wasn't "R" the nom de plume for the pot reviewer in High Times magazine in the 70s?

Not that I ever read it.
