When a bee fucks a flower
That flower has been well and truly fucked.

Ann: are you sure what color it looks like in ultraviolet? (Which bees see.)

At least we know that one bee in Madison hasn't disappeared.

Bees are Satan's army.

Truly the most horrific things on the planet. Glamorizing them like this doesn't fool me.

I LOVE bees. It's almost unreasonable. I currently have 6 kinds of honey in the house.

That's the differance between the stinger and the stingee.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Ever see that movie "Ulee's Gold"? Peter Fonda (old) plays a beekeeper. Can't remember what happened -- the usual family squabbles -- but he was a beekeeper.

Ann Althouse said...

At the moment, that whole movie is up on YouTube.

In one of the last of the Sherlock Holmes novellas, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle states that the great detective had retired to Sussex to become a bee keeper.

This is regarded by many academics as conclusive proof that Sherlock was in fact gay.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I would like to pluck the nectar from the delicate little flower Zachary. Sadly the thought of being pollinated by me gives him the hives.

Blessed are the beekeepers.

I actually saw Ulee's Gold, in the theatre, because it was getting Oscar buzz. It was the worst 2 hours of my entire life. That movie should be burned alive, buried, peed on, then burned again.

Sorry Palladian, I'm a stinger, not a stingee.

Oh would to God he would but pitty mee,
That love him more than any mortall wight!
Then he and I with love would soone agree,
That now cannot abide his sutors sight.
O would to God, so I might have my fee,
My lips were honey, and thy mouth a bee.

Then shouldst thou sucke my sweete and my faire flower,
That now is ripe and full of honey-berries;
Then would I leade thee to my pleasant bower,
Fild full of grapes, of mulberries, and cherRies:
Then shouldst thou be my waspe or else my bee,
I would thy hive, and thou my honey, bee.

Richard Barnfield, from "The Affectionate Shepheard, Containing the Complaint of Daphnis for the loue of Ganymede" (1594)

The Secret Life of Bees is coming to a theater near you in October.

WARNING: The comment that follows is somewhat off-color.

Here in USDA Zone 6b, one of the greatest pleasures of gardening is going about one’s business pruning at the Russian Sage as the bees go peaceably about their own.

That is all.

Are those two photos, or one photo plus an enlargement?

Two bees or not two bees?

Ann Althouse said...

1 photo with enlargement

Pollination, Palin-Nation.

Suggest campaign slogan to the McCain camp to appeal to the farm vote.

I LOVE bees

Ditto

And I love yellow and that second photo with the little cutie in a profusion of yellow.
