"I had little cute lines to say or something, but I thought the worst thoughts — the worst, most obscene things — and it came across."

How Eileen Fulton got started playing Lisa on "As the World Turns," nearly 50 years ago. The character was originally intended as "a sweet little girl next-door," but the spirit within the actress came through and influenced the show's writers to give her the great honor of decades of fictional villainy.

I should imagine there are few things in life more motivating than asking the question and having a crowd of people answer "yes."

I watched As the World Turns as a teen. There was a period in the 80s where it was pretty great when a new head writer (Douglas Marland) really reinvented the show. Anyway, the Lisa character really was great when the show had good writers.

That's funny, I write blog comments like that!

I've been wasting time lately watching old One Life to Live episodes on line.

Jean Randolph was such a great character. Never watched ATWT.

At least the soaps were apolitical. Now the yentas are brainwashed daily by The View.

What is it about soaps? I never watched one unless I was home sick once in 10 years, but I watched the old Dallas nightime soap. Maybe it is watching the evil and mean side of ourselves get played out in a fantasy what we never actually get to do. I remember that the J R character on Dallas was everyone's secret favorite. He got to kick butt rather than pushed pushed around in the Family Drama.

I heard this interview this am in the car. She was great and funny and it almost made me want to watch the show. I love the part about how people get so mad and even hit her because her character is such a bitch.

That's how I got fired once.

Soaps are a lot of fun. You get to live vicariously through zillions of situations, all with characters you love or love to hate. I always knew when Gabrielle on OLTL was about to become the good girl because she would start wearing her hair loose. When her hair went into a more severe style, the evil Gabrielle was back.

If she really wanted to be evil, she should have portrayed a scientist.

My mother watched ATWT when I was growing up. I remember that they did a prime time spinoff in the wake of the popularity of the Peyton Place TV show, built around the Lisa character.

I didn't know she was still around.
