Reince Priebus on the Trump debate.

"I think that having a successful businessman serving as a moderator has a lot of value. But the issue here is whether the moderator should still be a person who’s still batting around the idea of running as an independent. I think that should give some of these candidates some concern."

Some concern. Please, it's absurd for a potential candidate to moderate a debate.

Off topic - but, Volokh's site is down, redirecting to an admin page that doesn't load - and his topic addressed Gingrich's stating that he would appoint John Bolton, which the left is trumpeting as illegal... curious about this, his post title says "No." Not illegal?

Also absurd to have the writer of a book presupposing that Obama will win the Presidency moderate a debate during the campaign, but also not likely to have an impact in the outcome.

It's even more absurd to have a complete narcissistic asshole moderating the debate. Oh wait....

No more absurd than having any of the left wing MSM on MSNBC or any of the others running a GOP debate.

Somehow THAT is hunky-dory.

Trump can easily do a better job than the typical moderator who can barely contain their contempt for the candidates and their ideas. And if he is contemplating running which questions would he devise to further his chances while reducing theirs? Nothing he can think up could be worse than what a "neutral" moderator could concoct.

The chance of Donald Trump running for President are the same as him being named by whoever wins the ambassador to China.

I will actually watch this debate. My first.

I say Trump SHOULD moderate a debate. First, no, he's not a serious candidate, so that objection is a canard. Second, he will ask relevant and pertinent questions, questions the leftard media refuses to ask, focusing on the monumental shortcomings of the present administration, and it would be good for the Republicans, not bad. Shame on Romney, et al, for running away from the opportunity.

Seriously, how worse could Trump be than this smug liberal fucktard Scott Pelley?

The problem is it comes off as an ego trip masquerading as an episode of "The Apprentice".

The ridiculous part isn't that Trump wants to do this, but that the candidates will probably participate.

Why are any of the biased journalists more qualified than Trump to moderate a debate? I'm not interested in the smarmy push back from CBS 60 Minutes hack, or for God's sake David Gregory with his 'irrefutable facts' or George Stephanopolous, puke. These "reporters" are unwilling to share their spotlight with the new media. How about having Althouse or Breitbart moderate a debate? How about some intellectual depth? I enjoy Trump because he isn't afraid to call people out. He won't play the game the according to the rules, and I love watching it piss everyone off.

I want a candidate who has courage. Not bravado, not daring, not ambition. I want someone who loves America, understands what makes us great, and can articulate that. I want someone who skips the debates and goes straight to the people. I want someone who understands that private property is the most important underpinning of this country. Someone who thinks liberty is more than a pretty word.

I want a candidate who can make me stop thinking "We are so screwed" whenever the topic of 2012 comes up.

I think Pelosi (or some equivalent) should moderate the debate.

When Democrats debate, Boehner (or some equivalent) should moderate.

And yet, even after vomiting this nonsense, Priebus will wander back to his swank DC digs, stroke his chin thoughtfully and ask David Frum why the peasants in the base still tell RNC fundraisers to FOAD.

It'd be absurd if these "debates" actually involved candidates debating with one another, and if the "moderator" actually moderated anything.

I think the possibility of this is remote.... But I will laugh when the debate draws to a close, and right then Trump announces he WILL run for the Presidency!

I know "Reince Priebus" jokes are inherently lame, so apologies in advance, but the notion that the name is really an inside-the-Beltway joke is supported by the fact that it's an anagram for "curb eerie spin".

This debate has convinced me that none of you yahoos should be President. I've decided while moderating this that I'd be a better President than any of you, so I'm gonna run.

Althouse is right.

Ann, I agree with you that it's 'absurd' for a potential candidate to moderate a debate.

But then what does that make the real candidates who show up and play into it?

CHUMPS! That's what!

(If they are that desperate to please Donald Trump that they will allow themselves to walk into his trap when he might run against them, then how do you expect them to deal with dubious 'allies' or perfidious 'partners' like Pakistan and Russia?)

What kind of a retarded name is Reince Priebus anyway?

traditionalguy said...

Trump is an ardent Replace Obama partisan. He will make the candidates who are not talking Obama down harshly enough look naive.

So Reince is in a quandary.

I hope Mick attends and asks them about the Birth Certificate and the British parent issues.

Now that would be a real quandary.

It will have entertainment value, but that's the problem. Too many echoes of The Apprentice.....Gingrich will not look good next to Trump. So far as trophy wives go, Trump has bagged much bigger game.

Why does the name "Reince Priebus" sound so much like a genital infection of uncommon rancidity and discomfort? If this guy had murdered his parents, I'd probably side with him.
