"Cap City Path with Althouse in 10 minutes."

Meade has another go at editing me biking the Capital City Trail — today, over the lunch hour:

There's sound on this one, but no music track. Meade suggests you play this in the background.

Feel free to treat this post as an open thread and talk about anything you want. And if you've got any shopping to do, please use the Althouse portal into Amazon.

ADDED: Here's the GoPro camera Meade had strapped to his helmet.

Whenever I read the words Cap City I think of budget caps... not the word capitol... my head is a mess.

Thanks for the opportunity to bring it to everybody's attention.

As I said this morning, you really whip along, Madame, but I could never do that overpass with the chain link fencing.

I had to carry Quasy Dog across something like that and was surprised at how woozy I got.

For some reason, that stretch of open country in the middle had a Civil War feel to it.

Maybe the daylight.

I lost a cap like that once.

Oh, I see what you did there..

Pretty sneaky brother.

I have no idea (nor do I care) what you're talking about - but think you might find interesting a ruling in a California case regarding the "conversion therapy" law that came a day after Judge Shubb's.

"A day later, U.S. District Judge Kimberly J. Mueller, Shubb's colleague on the Eastern District of California bench, a federal judge appointed by President Barack Obama, reached a nearly opposite conclusion in a similar lawsuit filed by the conservative Liberty Counsel. Mueller wrote that the law did not violate free speech rights, but instead regulated professional conduct."

Did you happen to see the Badgers' Coach Bielema headed the other way towards Arkansas?

Let me take this opportunity to vent about iTunes btw...

They've taken the player and stripped it bare.

They got rid of the album cover scroll and reduced the display to a single plain vanilla format.

These guys belong in Washington.

Btw... Since I dont own a gun... have no way of obtaining one... nor care to at the moment.

Its completely safe for me to thank people, when the ocassion deems it so.

Perhaps that was the point.

We've never asked - and Meade's never volunteered - what type of man he is.

Looks like it was a nice ride. Conservatives, of course, oppose bike paths every chance they get.

DID THE TAXPAYERS PAY FOR THIS BIKE BATH? IF SO COMMIE BIKE RIDERS.

Emil Blatz said...

Yes, the taxpayers paid for the bike path. There is a statutory provision in Wisconsin that gives the state first right of refusal on abandoned rail corridors, and they either get land-banked for future transportation use or get converted into bike trails (and in some limited areas the state buys the corridor, tracks in place, then leases the line to a private short-line railroad.) Railroads stopped abandoning line in any appreciable amounts in the 1980's. What you have to see sometime is a rail map of Wisconsin in 1920, it looks like a dense, well developed circulatory system. The total track miles rapidly declined starting in the late 1920's, and by comparison, today there is a tiny fragment of the network that was once there. What was left from that decline has become a network of bike routes that cross the state. It would be essentially impossible to aggregate that kind of right of way today, in the absence of the railroads having assembled it from 1870-1920. Thank God for the rise and fall of the railroads!

Hate to be a mom here, but I need Meade to check the fit on Profe Althouse's bike helmet. Looks too high and tilted back. Should be level. You're a brilliant mind and I want to keep you that way. :)

I knew it..

The new version of iTunes went and rearranged my music... AND IT DID IT BADLY.

It put Roy Orbison in the Hip Hop section.

I have a lot of music... lord knows what else they've done.

Sure enough, the iTunes discussion board is burning up with complaints.

Didn't they beta test this trash?

I'm seriously considering going back to the previous version.

I'd like to ask that the "buy for me" pleas stop. Will it never end? Do you promise to stop the day after Christmas? This is getting worse than the pre-election political ads.

If you are wondering where you can get your hands on one of those pans that makes cornbread in the shape of corn, as so many holiday shoppers do this cornbread time of year, I'm fairly certain leslyn will be happy to have you know they are available through the Althouse-Amazon portal where you'll find several styles to choose from.

Along with the 'top of your head' cornbread recipes as shown here you'll be eager to try variations like cheese cornbread with jalapeño peppers which are becoming quite popular across the United States.

I bet.

The Amazon link is for readers who what to express appreciation for this blog and encourage its continuation. It is a cost-free way see that a writer gets paid.

I don't think you do like this blog, leslyn. I think you're here to express the opposite of appreciation, to try to push back people you don't like (i.e., me and the readers who like me).

So the reminders about Amazon are not directed at you. You'll have to take it upon yourself to disregard them.

n - I noticed that on the video, the other day. Glad you spoke up.

Bike helmets are for shade from the sun (wear a baseball cap under it if it doesn't have a visor), not head protection.

Unlike motorcycle helmets. Which are there to make it easier for the paramedics to find and carry your head after an accident.

Like a Fellini film it was.

God grief. I thought you were going to say, at least, ideas I don't like. Not "me" and "me." Do you really believe this is a cult of Althouse? (Well, I grant you ed.)

Anonymous said...

Leslyn, I caught that. It's conservative ideas, which include non stop Obama derangement, conspiracy theories, sometimes misogyny and even occasional racism that are getting pushback. I wonder now, does Althouse herself and readers here feel they are being personally attacked every time their commentary that fits the criteria I mentioned are criticized by a liberal?

Has "Althouse" become a cult of Althouse? That would be boring indeed. Is this why Crack left? Did he sense this?

The Professor is not a born sales(wo)man, so she is a bit awkward about it, but I have to agree with her. If you object that strongly to her attempts at salesmanship, go browse in some other store!

leslyn said...

"Strongly??" I asked, somewhat nicely, I thought.

The pushback was not nice.

Odd, though, that it can be expressed on other threads.
