"Mutterings" [Kindle Edition]
Clark Sutton (Author)
If it were possible to gay marry Ronald Reagan, Clint Eastwood, and my own late father, Clark Sutton would be the fruit of that union. Of course Ronald Reagan, Clint Eastwood, and Dad are probably the last three guys who would ever gay marry. Next best thing: "Mutterings," by Clark Eugene Sutton.

I was wondering where that was going.

Not gay marriage, but what about a lifelong bromance? Heterosexual male life buds?

Sorry, SGT, I'm not seeing it in the report. Closest thing to it I see is a book titled "Eco-Fascists: How Radical Conservationists Are Destroying Our Natural Heritage"

I ordered it and a timer yesterday through your portal. I assumed these posts were on yesterday's orders

I have ordered quite a few things that never show up on the report. I've even ordered several different ways just to see what will show. I can't figure it out.

Guys, I want you to take a look at Clark's book - I really think he wrote it for folks like us. In my case, reading him is like having been granted my wish that I could go back in time to when I was a know-it-all 17 year-old liberal, relax, take it easy, and just listen to my old man without talking back and arguing. Just let him mutter on and really listen because there was a whole lot of wisdom I'm afraid I may have missed the first time around. Here's sample:

In 1894, Senator Arthur P. Gorman led the effort to enact the nation's first peace-time income tax. In his honor I propose two new terms that should be used in all future budgetary debates. The first term is Gorman Unit. A Gorman Unit is one percent of all the personal income in the country in a single year. In other words, if there was a one percent income tax on everyone with no deductions, no credits, and no loopholes, and if there was 100% voluntary compliance, a Gorman units how much money would be raised in one year.
The second term is "Adjusted Gorman Unit." This is the amount of money that would actually be raised by a one percent bump in income taxes given whatever deductions, credits, loopholes, etc. exist in the real world.
It should be the goal of policy makers to have the Adjusted Gorman Unit be as close to a Gorman Unit as possible. The difference between these two numbers is the measurement of how screwed up the income tax system is.
(Location 2215 of 3071 in the Kindle edition.)

Now if only the Kindle edition of "Mutterings" could whistle country tunes such as "I Can't Stop Loving You" the way Dad could. I'd take it fishing.

And we'll be friends for life
We'll be just like a wife
I'm gonna' ride that horse (Western style) if I can...

"... wish that I could go back in time to when I was a know-it-all 17 year-old liberal, relax, take it easy, and just listen to my old man without talking back and arguing."

How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again.
It's always been the same, same old story.
From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen....

Meade said...

Good. Now can you sing "I Can't Stop Loving You"?

It would... make my day.

Meade said...

The Conway Twitty version.

And then go right into "Make the World Go Away". The Eddy Arnold version please.

Ann Althouse said...

You want me to sing like your Dad?

I just ordered a Kindle book delivered to my iPad with one click ordering through the portal. Now I just have to wait to see if it shows up.
I'm documenting this to see if I can figure out what works and what doesn't.

Ann Althouse said...

wyo sis, you're making us worry that Amazon is depriving us of not just your purchases but others as well.

Meade said...

"You want me to sing like your Dad?"

He never sang songs, he only whistled them.

Oh well, I'll just find them on YouTube.

Althouse, FWIW, I used the top Link, not the sidebar link

I'm not saying that. I don't want to alarm you or accuse anyone of anything. I just can't figure out why the stuff I order doesn't show up.

I usually know what I want to order and have in my cart then I go to your site, click on the link at the top of the page and place and pay for the order.
A lot of what I've ordered lately is Kindle books with one click to go to my iPad. Several John D. McDonald books. I also ordered a half slip and a book called "Don't Let the Pigeon Finish this Activity Book, and a Munchkin Mozart Magic Cube.
