Those Dell laptops that smell like cat urine? Don't worry.

"The smell is not related to cat urine or any other type of biological contaminant, nor is it a health hazard."

Link goes to a BBC news item that ends "News of the issue spread after a link to the thread was posted to discussion site Reddit," which links to a Reddit thread where the top-rated comment refers to the BBC link to the comments thread and comments like "Clearly BBC journalists like to keep their fingers on the pulse of what's happening. Commendable attitude" and "Or they're desperately scrabbling for a source that isn't 'Marge from St. Ives said so' and don't think people will look too carefully..."

If it smells like cat pee then it smells like cat pee. Whether or not it is cat pee is a minor concern by comparison.

And if the BBC story links to a Reddit story that links to the BBC story, do they exist outside of their codependent dance?

If you like the way your computer smells, you can keep it.

"No one is madder about the smell of cat urine coming from your laptop than the cat who peed on it." -Dell VP for HHS (Help > Horrible Smells)

Aw, hell, if you're going to exaggerate, by all means say it reeks of cat urine.

Replacement parts? Shouldn't Dells replace the whole damn thing for PR purpose: they back their products 100%? Nobody wants a new computer with replaced parts.

Dang it. I thought I'd finally found a way for my cat, Mr. Incontinent, to contribute to the family income.

A penny per page view. That's all I ask.

Amen. I'm not worthy to share the comment page with him!

Don't think flattery is going to get you out of your penny/view obligation, MM.

Dell is like wine. Good years, bad years. Years it's good, it's great. Years it's bad, nothing but trouble.

I got a Dell laptop in January 2007. Still runs great. My wife got one in late 2008, would freeze up, not come back from sleep, eventually died on us a couple years ago. Only laptop I've come across that just quite absolutely.

Have a new Dell now, a touchscreen. Runs wonderfully. Not a bit of a problem. Windows 8 with the $5 Start8 program is easy to us. Smells of lilacs and rainbows.
