Maybe he saw Obama's bus pulling up in front of his house just as the court ruled the government has to release more FandF documents.

Or did an anchor gig on MSNBC suddenly open up.

Lame duck session coming up. Try to push through a nominee while Harry Reid still holds the Senate? Will he include Attorney General with the Federal Judges majority only rule?

Can Eric Holder be prosecuted now?

But then, Asians don't view academic success as a negative or "actin' white", so they've got that going for them.

Yeah, black irish.

Meaning the enslavers of blacks.

Oh, but they were muslims, so crack is cool with that.

I think that the Democrats are concerned they might lose control of the Senate come January. If that happens, Holder was open for possible impeachment. He's the gatekeeper to all of Obama's scandals. With Republicans in control of Congress, a Holder impeachment would open many cans of worms not only on Obama but many other prominent Democrats as well. They'll want to be in control of the confirmation process (probably after the elections) to try and get another gatekeeper in place. If the Republicans are in charge of the Senate, they'd likely block another person like Holder getting confirmed. Once his replacement is confirmed, don't be surprised if Obama does a preemptive pardon to keep Holder quiet. He knows where all the bodies are buried because he was the one with the shovel.

Bobber Fleck said...

Kimsch has it. This is allow his replacement a chance to be confirmed before a Republican controlled senate is in place.

You can view this as evidence the Democrat Party thinks they will lose the senate.

Brando said...

I agree the timing is odd--usually these things are announced after elections. I don't think this was so that Obama could get someone confirmed before the new Senate is convened, because it's unlikely it can happen that fast--particularly at a time when control of the Senate hinges on a number of red state Democrats up for re-election, I can't imagine forcing them to vote on a controversial nominee.

I do wonder though if something was about to open up? Though what could emerge that hadn't already?

I guess this also saves the GOP the hassle of impeaching the guy.

kimsch and Larry J have 2/3 of the answer.

The final third is the hope that this will provide some small help for those red and purple state democrats up for reelection in Nov. It takes an arrow out of the quiver of republicans but still allows Obama to appoint more of the same after the election.

Indeed, they could be so brazen as to pull an Emily Littella after the election and say "never Mind, I'm staying."

Thorley Winston said...

Two likely possibilities (based on the timing):

1) Democrats think that they’re likely to lose the Senate and plan to push through a new AG nominee during a lame duck session of the Senate.

2) Something incriminating about the DOJ or Holder personally that the administration is unable to stonewall on is coming out and he’s leaving to avoid becoming a “distraction.”

1. DoJ is going to be held contempt over their failure to comply with the Judicially order (in July) document request in the F&F case. I suspect that Holder didn't think he'd have to comply and he's going to get blasted by the Judge.

2. WRT to a replacement. Is there time? Can even a Reid Senate Steamroller it? Let's see.

a. They have to name somebody before the election, and at the same time pretend that the hearings will be in January.
b. This puts those purple Dem Senate candidates on the spot on two counts. The confirmation itself, an a Lame duck steamroller vote
c. the need to do the nominee survey, the committee hearings? and the floor vote in the Nov Dec time frame and a CR?

After that steamroller, regardless of who wins the elections, the next Senate session will be bloody. The House will look like the Model UN in comparison...

"Would your DOJ selectively prosecute voter intimidation cases based on the race and/or politics of the perpetrators? If you found that such selective prosecution occurred in the past how would you deal with the prosecutors in question?"

"Please tells us your opinion on departments that fail to comply with Federal data retention regulations, especially in regards to potential Civil Rights violations."

Where do you come up with this horseshit? For whatever it's worth, you pretty much meet my expectations of black people based on observation, not racism, and they don't contemplate your happiness.

I doubt that typifying negative stereotypes qualifies as "agitating for justice," but I'm sure you have found enablers and co-dependents in the black community who think otherwise.

Two black teenage girls were killed and left on the side of a road in Florida. Why doesn't America care?

Because they were probably killed by other Black people, and the media has decided that there is nothing wrong with Black people killing Black people. (or even Black people killing White people.) The only time it is newsworthy is if a White person kills a Black person.

I think more women have considered the merits of abortion and feminism generally, and are turned off by the sacrifice required to enjoy pleasure and avoid responsibility for their actions. Hopefully, the corruption has been constrained and limited, and both women and men will recover from their ego-filled adventure in la la land.

What remains is to overcome political parties (e.g. Democrat), businesses (e.g. Planned Parenthood), and like-minded who cling to their regressive principles and pose as obstacles to realizing positive progress.

Anyway, the din of cognitive dissonance is growing and the moral hazards are increasingly difficult to ignore. The reconciliation process may not be wait for the next president or surviving generation of Americans. The presence of large-scale immigration and especially illegal immigration is exposing the consequences of libertine behaviors. Of course, Gosnell's Little Clinic of Horrors, blocked toilets, and clogged drains helped. It's time for women and men to leave childish things behind.

There are many roads to success in this country - WEB Dubois wasn't poor - but that one is fraught with hidden dangers for blacks, both, before and after we reach the goal.

I've been poor, fairly well-to-do, and poor again. That's a traditional circumstance for blacks, considering - thanks to white supremacy - each generation is forced to start from scratch with nothing.

The point is to never quit - which is the same for our civil rights - we get there, but (thanks to white supremacy) after years of struggle.

As long as I'm still here, I can get there again,...
